Hi! Im Leah!
Hi y’all!
My name is Leah Schachman and I am so thankful to be here. I recently graduated college in May 2022 with a bachelors of science from the University of Kentucky. Four years ago, I entered college with a goal to pursue a career in physical therapy. The beauty of goals is that they grow and change with you as a person. Throughout my college experience, studying on a pre-physical therapy track, I was starting to feel as if I was not serving my purpose. Once it came time to start applying to physical therapy programs, I had no drive. I kept reminding myself of something my parents have preached to me from a very young age and that is “If you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life”! So I did just that. I found where my love and passion lies, and that is improving lives of others though acts of service and volunteering.
I am so ecstatic that I have been given the opportunity to take my passion for serving to the next level. I have been selected to serve as an AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps Team Leader! On July 19th I will embark on a year long journey of leading a group of members in assisting disaster survivors with rebuilding their lives, preparing communities for potential disasters and improving disaster response systems in communities all around the country.
My goal for this blog is to post weekly and share what I have been up to, where the heck in the world I am, and all of the things I learn along the way!
So buckle up… the adventure begins now!
