FEMA Flexible!
When applying and preparing for this service year, my Uncle Ed kept using the phrase “FEMA flexible”. I now know what that phrase truly means. The team and I are currently in our overly packed van full of uniforms, luggage and gear making our way down from Tallahassee to Marco Island Florida. After not even two weeks of working with the planning section, we have been redeployed to Fort Myers where we will be doing disaster survivor assistance (DSA) canvassing and going door to door registering survivors for help and support. Now THAT is FEMA flexible.
I am not going to say I’m excited, that’s not the right word for it. I am eager. Eager to get there and be boots on the ground and help these communities that need it most. I am not completely sure what to expect but I do know it’s going to be difficult. Emotionally, physically, and mentally hard. But there’s another thing I know… I can do it. I am SO blessed to be able to go serve and support these communities that have just gone through the worst and toughest time. I will greet these survivors with a smile, an open heart, and a listening ear.
I look forward to being able to share more about this deployment next week, but for now, that’s all the information I have! Instead of rose bud thorn this week, I want to leave you with some important thoughts to remind yourself….
Kindness is free.
You are loved and enough, always.
Talk to yourself like someone you love.
It’s okay to not feel okay all the time.
You are a lot stronger than you think!!
