Jade 4 is the best team … just saying!

Hello and happy Sunday! It’s a beautiful day to be alive (Whitney Simmons if you are reading my blog which you probably aren’t, your saying has become a part of my daily routine!)

I’m happy to report that this was a great week! It was the first whole week having my team here and my members have already become like one big family and it makes my heart so happy. They are each so amazing and special in their own unique ways. I can’t wait to brag about them and share all they accomplish this year!

Since we are out of shelter in place, we began cooking dinners as a team and let me tell you, I’ve got some chefs over here. From chickpea curry to tomato tacos, I can assure you the jade 4 team goes to bed with full and thankful tummies.

As a team, some of the things we took on this week were evening duty patrol, van driving tests and learning how to use snow chains as well as CPR and first aid certification. I have already learned so much from my members in the short time they have been here. It’s important to me that I share how much of a difference the members are making on my life. When applying to this program, I knew that as a TL (team leader)I would have a lot of responsibility with the end goal of making the world a better place through teaching/guiding my members through emergency management and disaster relief. What I did not know was how much I was going to learn and grow with the support and knowledge of my team. With that said, my leadership and discipline skills have been put to the test a few times. I feel confident in how I have handled certain situations and am very thankful for the radiating support from staff here on campus. No one expects me to know exactly how to handle disciplinary situations so early on. With staff and team leader support, I am learning from mistakes and gaining some self confidence along the way.

As this week comes to a close, I am looking forward to what next week has in store for me!

Rose: Taking my team off campus for brunch on Saturday and spending time with them outside of trainings!

Bud: Finding out where we are being sent out to for our first deployment!!

Thorn: Having to discipline and put forth consequences so early on in the year. Although it’s been frustrating and difficult, I have learned from it and feel that if another disciplinary situation were to arise, I would be more comfortable and confident.

PS - Mom, Dad, Danit & Luna, I miss y’all more and more everyday!! Sending hugs and kisses to you. I hope I’m making you proud!

PPS - Hey Danit… TEXT OR CALL ME BACK PLEASE! I miss and love you most sissy!
