The corps members have arrived!

What a week. This past week was full of stress, excitement, lots of computer work & planning, and welcoming new smiling faces to campus!

I promised myself that I would be honest when writing these blog posts even if it wasn’t always sunshine and rainbows. This past week was hard for me. There were some moments where I felt I was not cut out for this job or that I was not capable of leading fellow young adults. I’m really starting to miss my family and sometimes I find myself just needed a hug from mom! I was reminded that while this is such a difficult job at times, I’m here for a reason and am much stronger than I may feel at times!

Monday and Tuesday were devoted to team leader planning time to prepare for the arrival of our members who arrived on Wednesday. I was on shuttle duty, so I spent the majority of Wednesday driving from campus to the free waiting lot to the terminals then back to campus. I kind of enjoyed driving the vans and listening to podcasts when I was in the car alone. I am so behind on listening to my podcasts… I’ve had barely any time! After all the members got settled on campus, I met my team and let me tell y’all, I have the best corps members on my team. I am so beyond excited to lead them as we serve this year and can’t wait to see what’s in store for us (especially as we approach our first deployment on September 6th)!!!!

Today (Sunday), started off with the sweetest morning. A special someone surprised me with a breakfast date at a gluten free dairy free bakery (YUP! You heard me right. I could eat anything and everything there!) that instantly felt like a little piece of heaven! We officially decided that bakery would be out Sunday spot for the rest of training and whenever we are back in Sacramento for transitions. I’ve truly never met someone so thoughtful and amazing!

Later today, I am going to the Sacramento homeless union to drop off a bunch of food that was left over from our catered meals the last few days. I joined the environmental liaisons group on campus and I’m blessed to be surrounded and working with people that are so determined to make this world a better place!

This upcoming week is going to be very busy with the corps members training but I know it’s going to be awesome. To any of my TLs that are reading this; remember to breathe, you’re absolutely crushing it!

As always…

Rose: meeting my members and watching them quickly become like a family!

Bud: leading my teams first PT session and getting to bond more as a team!

Thorn: feeling defeated and overwhelmed at times but I’m so lucky to have people in my corner that remind me of my strength and my worth!

xo, L
